Are you a storyteller? Do you have a story you would like to share? Ten people will have a chance to tell their story at the Botanical Garden Story Slam on the Ojos y Manos: Eyes and Hands amphitheater stage.
Send in your Interest Form to be considered for a spot in our first ever Botanical Garden Story Slam, Saturday, October 8th at 1p.m. Prizes awarded for the best story! What’s a Story Slam? A story slam is a very short and true story about the storyteller. Slams are typically 5 minutes long or rather short. Shorter stories mean quickly connecting the audience to your story through feeling, creativity and meaning. Still not sure, check out The Moth for inspiration. See rules below:
We will be accepting 10 storytellers. If accepted, you will be contacted to go over your story to determine if story is appropriate for the event. Finalists will be notified via email whether they were chosen. Interest form due by September 30, 2022. THERE THERE TRIVIA BOWL

Test your team's knowledge of this year's Santa Fe Reads featured work— There There by Tommy Orange. Special prizes for winners plus the winning team will be immortalized forever on the Santa Fe Reads Trivia Bowl trophy displayed in the Main Library and invited back next year to defend their title. ART CONTEST
Submit your artwork, in any visual media, inspired by any of our reading selections this year. Art work be dropped off at any Santa Fe Public Library branches during the months of September and October 2022. Maximum of two entries per participant; a form for each entry is required.
This year’s juries--Samantha Tracy and Bess Murphy from Coe Center for the Arts--will select prize winning work that best reflect the themes from 2022 Santa Fe Reads’s selected works. Themes can include, but are not limited to: urbanity, authenticity, importance of stories and storytelling, individual vs. collective, and the concept of home and community. Prizes will be given out to winners in the following age categories:
All submissions due by Friday, November 4, 2022. All received entries will be exhibited at the Santa Fe Public Library gallery spaces*. Please note that the entry form asked for your permission to allow us to feature your submission to promote Santa Fe Reads program. * Work must be appropriate for a public setting for all ages. Our 2022 Santa Fe Read Poetry Contest is open to teens (ages 13-18) and adults (ages 19+). We accept original poem in any poetic style inspired by our 2022 Santa Fe Reads featured selection--There There by Tommy Orange.
Santa Fe Poet Laureate Elizabeth Jacobson of Poetry Pollinators will select the prize winning poems. Poets must be at least 13 years of age. One submission per poet. Your submission must be one page and no longer than 30 lines. All submissions due by Friday, November 4, 2022. Email your submission to library@santafenm.gov with your full name, phone number, and age category (teen or adult). Winners will be notified by end of November. |
ESSAY CONTEST
The 2022 Santa Fe Reads Essay Contest is open to teens (ages 13-18) and adults (ages 19+). One submission per author. Institute of American Indian Arts Writing Department will be judging this year’s Essay Contest.
In 700 words or less respond to the following prompt: There There by Tommy Orange details historical narratives from a variety of perspectives. How do you approach your own communities’ historical narratives to ensure a deeper understanding of the stories presented to us? Essays may draw upon the book, historical examples, or personal experience. All submissions due by Friday, November 4, 2022. Email your submission to library@santafenm.gov with your full name, phone number, and age category (teen or adult). Winners will be notified by end of November. |
ONLINE READING CHALLENGE FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS

This online reading challenge is open from now through November. Pick up a copy of one or all of our 2022 Santa Fe Reads Picture Book and Young Adult selection for our younger readers. For our mature reader, lean-in to the poignant and painfully funny There There—for our mature reader. Log your reading, complete activities, and share your thoughts. Participants completing online challenges will be entered into a raffle for prizes. Winners announced in November. |
