Santa Fe Public Library invites you to connect with your community to explore themes of self-empowerment, love, regret, and transformation through the lens of Greek mythology as part of 2024 Santa Fe Reads. This countywide 5-week reading festival brings together more than 30 local organizations to co-create enriching activities to promote connection and conversation around this year’s themes.
Whether you're drawn to the featured novel, middle-reader selection, or picture books, there are activities for every age group to engage with. |

Costume Contest—Gods & MonstersDate: Saturday, April 20 at 2:15 PM
Location: Southside Teen Center, 6600 Valentine Way, Santa Fe, NM 87507 Contest Categories: Children (Ages 0 - 6),Youth (Ages 7-12), Teen (Ages 13-17) and Adults (18+) First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in each age bracket for costumes that display the most outstanding Accuracy, Effort, and Presentation.Costumes must represent Goddesses, Gods, Monsters, or other characters from Ancient Mythology. Costumes may be homemade or store bought. Myth Writing ContestDeadline: Tuesday, April 30
Awards Presentation: Tuesday, May 7 at 6PM As part of the 2024 Santa Fe Reads celebrations, the Santa Fe Public Library is hosting a writing contest! All entries must either relate to or include some elements of Greek Mythology. Reimagine an existing myth; feature an established god, goddess, creature, or mythic figure; write an epic poem; or critically engage with a specific story or character from ancient Greek folklore. Each winner will receive $100! Honorable mentions will receive wonderful local gift certificates! Art ContestDeadline: Saturday, May 4
Submit your artwork, in any visual media and any size, inspired by our reading selections this year. Artwork may be dropped off at any Santa Fe Public Library branches during the months of March, April and May, 2024. Maximum of two entries per participant; a form for each entry is required. This year’s juries will select prize winning work that best reflect the themes from 2024 Santa Fe Reads selected works. Themes can include, but are not limited to: The Hero’s Journey, Finding One’s Power, Female Strength and Greek Mythology. Prizes will be given out to winners in the following age categories:

Online Reading ContestThis fun online reading challenge is open from April through May.
Pick up a copy of the 2024 Santa Fe Reads title Circe by Madeline Miller to get you started on your reading journey. For young readers participating, pick up a copy of one of the 2024 Santa Fe Reads youth companion titles. Find your favorite Goddesses or Gods in George O’Connor’s Olympians series! Learn about Greek Goddesses in the children’s picture book Goddesses and Gardens. Explore the constellations through Greek myths in Jean Marzollo's Little Bear, You're a Star!. Log your reading, complete activities, and share your thoughts! Participants completing online challenges will be entered into a raffle for prizes. Winners announced end of May, 2024. |
